• Obituary. Dr John Gladstone MACKENZIE was born at Toorak on 20 September 1927, the son of a draughtsman and a trained nurse and midwife. Known as Jock, he attended Scotch from 1939 to 1944 as a member of Morrison House. He was a 1944 member of the Ninth. Jock graduated MSc (1953) and MBBS (1957) from Melbourne University, becoming a medical practitioner and pathologist. He was a consultant pathologist to the Department of Defence and became senior partner at Melbourne Pathology. He enjoyed recounting that his final report commented ‘Jock will have a chance in anything but science’! On 20 February 1960 he married Wilma Joy Young at Scotch. She died on 5 March 1994. Their sons attended Scotch: Dugald William Mackenzie (born 30 April 1961, SC 1969-76, died 6 October 2004), Ian (SC 1972-82), Jamie (SC 1972-82), Andrew (SC 1974-82) and Cam (SC 1975-87). Jock was a member of the Old Scotch Collegians’ Lodge and supported Scotch as a member of the Scotch College Foundation. He died at Broughton Lea, Surrey Hills, on 6 September 2012 following a stroke suffered four days earlier.
John married Wilma Joy Young on 20 Feb 1960 in Scotch College, Hawthorn, Melbourne. Wilma died on 5 Mar 1994.
